The material relates to the Croydon A, Stepney and Battersea Power Stations.
The material covers everyday maintenance by staff and by the servicing companies, whose correspondence with the power stations forms part of the collection. There are records of daily checks and tests on plant such as battery and boiler tests, and official documentation procedures can be observed from the power station log books and key issue books. There are also minutes of the meetings of the Works Committee and Efficiency Meetings.
The records also show the development of supplier companies such as English Electric Company, Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company Ltd George Kent and Negretti and Zambra. There are large numbers of plans and technical diagrams, some staff records, and records which show the power stations in their changing roles from private electricity supply companies to part of the nationalised framework under the Central Electricity Generating Board. The Battersea Power Station Plans relate to the power station located in Lombard Road, which has since been destroyed. They do not relate to the plant still standing (as of February 2010). These plans can be found in the cupboard in the journals area behind the lecture theatre.
