IET Connect was launched as the brand name of the IET Benevolent Fund in May 2006. It is the charitable organisation that aims to help IET members (and members' dependants) in need to get back on track though advice, support and financial assistance. The Fund was established 20 March 1890 and early contributions were made by Sir David Bart Salomons, Sir William Preece, Alexander Siemens and Hugo Hirst.
Although the Company operates under the name IET Connect, that is not its legal name. It has existed continuously as a separate entity since 1947 and during that period it has never been part of the IEE or IET.
IET Connect is registered as a Company (00441284) and also registered as a Charity (208925).
It was registered as a Company, under the name INCORPORATED BENEVOLENT FUND OF INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS LIMITED (THE) on 27/08/1947. The name was changed to THE INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS BENEVOLENT FUND on 11/06/2001. The name was then changed to the current name THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY BENEVOLENT FUND on 06/04/2006. The Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Company were incorporated on 27 August 1947 and amended by special resolutions dated 17 May 2001, 4 February 2003, 23 March 2006 and 19 May 2010.
It was registered as a Charity, under the name THE INCORPORATED BENEVOLENT FUND OF THE INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS on 1962-09-22. The change of name to THE INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS BENEVOLENT FUND was recorded in 2001 and to THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY BENEVOLENT FUND in 2006.
