Letter Sir Charles Bright to Edward Bright
  • Reference
    UK0108 SC MSS 020/II/61
  • Date
    1870-06-07
  • Scope and Content
Written from St Thomas. Dacia has arrived. All hands well, except Mr Slater who died of dysentery at sea. Taken offices in St Thomas. Has all the poles ready for the land line. Must use poles as the rock is too hard for underground lines and blasting would be to expensive. Leaving for Kingston via Port Rico, then going on to Cuba to lay the cable. Praise for agent, Mr Lamb, but need to be careful about appointment of agents in future due to jealousy between the rival agents.
