    Letters written to Evelyn Oldenbourg, whom he married in 1873. He proposed to her in 1870 and she rejected him. They continued to see each other as friends and he proposed again in 1872 and she accepted him. The letters are mainly written during the period of their engagement and describe his work, visits to lighthouses, experiments with glass, and the furnishing of their house.
